Breakbeat animals confess to sniffing vinyl…

We spend a minute with Chris Russell from breakbeat duo The Beatmonkeys and find out more about what they are up to and why they back the CALM campaign…

Q1 What’s getting you excited at the moment? (Keep it clean…)

I downloaded some of bassnecters album and loved it! Other than that, our next release on brighton breaks and the bodysnatchers remix we will be doing this afternoon!

Q2 Are you happy with how “Lords Of Eldorand” and “Dirty Beaver” were received?

Very happy indeed; it did very well going high in record sales and downloads
and as it was really nice to hear people were playing it in clubs!

Q3 Is there anything you specifically want to achieve during 2007?

I think we would like to get as many releases out and our album in the shops too – i think that would be quite an acheivment!

Q4 Tell us something that no-one knows about The Beat Monkeys…

Well, a few people know we were “the one eyed beatmonkeys” to start with but the name got cut because it was too large to put on the flyer!

Q5 Got any hot tips for this year?

Jump about! But make sure you are in safe surroundings…

Q6 What can’t you travel without?

A lot of the travelling i do is on the way to gigs so i would say Mat the other Beatmonkey

Q7 Tell us why you’re supporters of CALM

Its easy to support anything that is doing something for the right reasons and helps people. People go through tough times so anything that helps them get through it can only be a good thing!

Q8 When it comes to men, problems and talking, would you agree that “Being Silent Isn’t Being Strong?”

Coming to terms with your feelings and being able to talk about them is something you learn a little bit later in life that would of been of great use when you were younger!

Q9 If you could only save one CD from your collection, what would it be?

Q10 Who’s responsible for the best gig you’ve experienced?

Recently i saw Adam Freeland and he was great! Other than that Mr Jon Carter way back at Bugged Out.

Q11 Which venue or event do you have great memories of performing at?

Well, Chibuku at The Masque (Liverpool Barfly) had so many great memories its hard to think of anywhere else!
