Depends really on if you are a single Dad, have a supportive partner etc. Being a Dad is quite an emotional time for all involved. Apart from what the female has to go through (by this point you should have some idea otherwise you’re in for a shock!). But whilst everyone surrounds the ‘New Mum’ with love and praise and help, they quite often leave the ‘New Dad’ totally out of it. Maybe it’s an old fashoined thing. However speaking from my own experience, I found it a massive change to my life, getting up at all hours, helping out, feeding, making bottles and eventually sleeping on the floor when the baby would only settle next to Mum. Then up at 5am and going off to my job then rushing home to give my wife a break (whilst picking up a pack of nappies along the way)…. I think I did pretty well as I have a total of three now (yes I have premature grey hair at 34!). Along the way though I am plagued by how well I measure up against other Dad’s, and had the worry at the back of my mind I would turn into my own Father (thankfully not!). But we guys never really get that much credit for all we do and will do, most of the time in the background….so I say to any ‘New Dad’, congratulations, you’ve come this far in one piece after 9 months of unpredictable hormones….now for the ultimate challenge….changing their first nappy..!
