Like many of you, I was shocked to hear the statistic “suicide is currently the biggest killer of young men between 15 and 35.” It moved me to want to do something to help. Now I might not be a trained counselor but that does not prevent me from getting involved.
I love sport so running the London Marathon for CALM is the perfect way for me to help make a difference by raising awareness and sponsorship for the work CALM is doing. It also keeps me fit and will hopefully help me burn off the winter blubber!!
There is so much truth in the saying “easier said than done” but I’m currently managing 3 runs a week which is OK. Each run is about 12km and that and takes me about an hour. As we get into February and March, I will want to keep the mid-week runs at this level but build up the weekend run to 20-30km over time. Note that is my goal – watch this space to see if am more talk than action!!
Editors note: since Brendan wrote this his company has agreed to match the amount he raises to the value of £2K
