How very true Jane. My life was turned upside down on 22nd April last year. I lost the most precious thing to me - my son John. I will never expect anyone to understand what I am going through and every day gets more and more painful but I too am a great believer in CALM even if they only save one more life. I will never get over John but hope in some way he can save somebody else's life. Please support CALM as they do a fantastic job Elaine

Craig: This period of unemployment for me has nearly killed me. I have applied for well over 2,000 jobs in the last 3 months, and have had only 2 interviews (I've management experience, 6+ years excellent customer service + awards for such, and heavy banking experience). It's not always in our hands, no matter how hard we try.

This article gave me the first ray of light I've seen in rather some time. Instead of lambasting a point because it doesn't agree with your particular ideology, why not realise the bouyancy it will grant people, who are already drowning in a sea of depression. Why not help throw them a lifeboat, by constructively adding to comments, instead of harpooning ideas you don't appreciate?

I've got a mate, well more of a work colleague & he's recently split from who he thought was the love of his life, however little did he know she was getting destroyed week after week by several members of his band. And i would like to take this opportunity for a little confession. I am absolutely ashamed of myself but will feel better once i've confessed that i too was bumming the living daylights out of her whilst he was at band practise. I didn't even really like her if i'm honest & he wouldn't hurt a fly but as the rest of the band were saying she was a proper slag i couldn't help myself. Anyway things were going well until unfortunately my mate found out one day the whole band tagged teamed his girlfriend after band practise and he had to leave the band. His head is now full of suicidal thoughts, I''m concerned NO band, NO girlfriend, CANT trust his mates........does he need help?

To this day, I will never get over the death of John.

This only happened to other people, other families and I, like everyone else would comment how tragic it was and dismiss it and go on with our lives, never once giving a second thought to that person or the impact on family or friends.

My whole view changed on the 22nd April last year, a date I will never, ever forget. I know it's a cliche, but if C.A.L.M., can prevent just one person from taking this permanent solution to what is a temporary problem, then please support them..... Jane

Craig, I think society telling us that we are worthless without a job is not a good tactic to motivate people into work. Good teachers have known it their whole careers - tell a student they're lazy and worthless and you don't get good results. Show encouragement and love and you've got a better chance.
A second point is that high unemployment rates comes during recessions and not during booms. That simple correlation implies that the primary cause of unemployment is supply of jobs, rather than lack of individual motivation.
The point I was hoping to make was that by realising the latter, and being kind to yourself to counter the former, you have a better chance of feeling better about yourself which in the end, is a state of mind which is far more likely to result in self-motivation.

Watson is not bland. He is a damaged, complex individual. A decent man and a dedicated doctor who has had to patch up people who have been deliberately maimed by war. Fixing them up, to have his country put them at risk all over again. That would damage anyone. Plus, he is a healer who is a crack shot. I can see someone being insentative enough to suggest he would better serve his country as a sniper - ouch - not a good thing to say to a doctor....
