Let Them Eat (John’s Debut) Cake!

I am not a regular or skilled cook by any means, it’s just another comfort zone I have stepped out of in the last few months. So many times success, it seems, involves breaking beyond your said comfort zone and being willing to embrace the great possibilities that come with new challenges. I read about “31 Songs” and how it could potentially allow the CALM helpline to run 52 weeks a year at 7 days a week if the purchases happen. My contribution is a grain in the sand but you realise what could be done if everybody stuck their head above the parapet for a while and tried something a bit different. Then great things can happen.

St. Valentine’s Day! A supposed time where love abounds and also where people can feel incredibly lonely. A great opportunity to promote CALM and also add some more pounds to the group’s coffers.

Cue ‘fun times’ as the “CALM” themed cake, among others, got its first public showing. As a 31 year old man, it was a rare chance to be creative and indeed indulge in Smarties. Next off the production line came “Woo Cake” – a subtle mix of chocolate, orange, strawberries and a secret ingredient.

Hours were spent in my kitchen knocking up several baked goods for my office and the effort was worth it. A tidy sum was raised and more people got to know about CALM just from a simple works cake sale.
