‘Every Man’ illustrations: employment

‘Every Man’ illustrations

by Chris Sav

Employment is falling and unemployment is at its peak. Today, many millions of people are jobless but Chris Sav shares his courage to laugh at it through his art.

Woman at the Job Centre: ‘I mean, I can’t see why you haven’t got a job yet; you’re qualified, you have a Finance degree…’
Me: ‘Um… I actually have a degree in Fine Art…’
Woman at the Job Centre: ‘Oh, well that would explain it…’
Other incorrect records of me at the Job Centre include: my apparent previous profession as an ice skating instructor (laughable to those that know of my coordination skills, or lack of) and my full name being Chris ‘Optional’ Sav.
As I sit at a computer, sending CVs and cover letters off into the ether, my mind wanders and rests upon the thought of my parallel self, Mr Optional Sav with a BA in Finance. I imagine he is getting all the jobs that I have applied for, and this is accompanied by an image of him teaching at an ice rink, something akin to an inebriated, wingless Daddy longlegs on skates.

  1. Frightening how true that is.

The sheer amount of jobs I have and applied to that I know I don’t want, this gets me depressed and when I don’t apply I can’t get out of bed.

I do pull myself out of it when I can and I have to say IT does help, you just need to keep going with it.
