Vans Checkerboard Day: Getting creative is good for your head

Your chance to nab a pair of limited edition CALM X VANS kicks designed by renowned  graphic artist Schoph…

This November, VANS are partnering with CALM for VANS Checkerboard Day. VANS Checkerboard Day is a global initiative to champion the power of creative expression around the world. And creativity is something CALM can get behind. We know that doing stuff you love – from doodling in your notebook to painting a kick-ass mural, can be great for your mental wellbeing, which is why we’re thrilled to be part of VANS Checkerboard Day in 2020.

We know restrictions make that tough, but whether it’s painting, running or writing a haiku about cats, join us. It’s good for your head.

Get involved

Getting involved is simple. Just do something creative on November 19th, and join thousands of others around the world doing the same. Studies have shown that getting creative can be great for your mental wellbeing – that’s why here at CALM we’re always getting involved with artsy cool stuff like the Art Collective, and working with The Connor Brothers.

Not sure what to do? Head to the Art Collective page for a CALM brief that’ll get your creative juices flowing – or visit VANS for more ideas.

Take me to the shoes…

Don’t fancy getting the paintbrush out? How does a pair of limited edition VANS kicks sound? For your chance to get your mitts (or feet) on a one-of-a-kind pair of VANS designed by none other than Schoph, head to eBay where you can bid for the excellent hi top sneakers – all proceeds from the auction will go to CALM and our life-saving services.

Limited edition VANS trainers featuring Scoph's artwork for VANS Checkerboard Day

Schoph Schofield first came to prominence in the international snowboarding scene, but it is his artwork that now carries him across the globe – contributing his highly detailed resin artworks, signature lines and graphics to some of the most established snowboard companies in the industry, including Vans, Volcom and Lib Technologies,

Schoph is a longtime supporter of CALM, and is passionate about raising awareness of mental wellbeing and suicide prevention after losing his friend Nelson Pratt. The VANS Custom kicks feature one of his favourite paintings titled, ‘Let go of all that binds you, your kind will always find you.’  Bid for them here.
