How you can support CALM in 2021

To say the last 12 months has been a weird one is the understatement of the, erm, year.

But in the face of, well, everything, we’ve got through it together – by looking out for each other. It hasn’t been easy, but when has that ever stopped us? And we have been there to answer more people who need us than ever before.

And that’s thanks to YOU, our incredible supporters who’ve gone above and beyond, and then a little bit further. We saw shaved heads, gaming marathons and even a permanent #TeamCALM tattoo. And if you’re looking to take action for CALM we’ve put together some stuff you can really get your teeth into.

Take on a challenge

Whether you run (maybe a Spark Change run?) or cycle, skydive or score goals, now the world is slowly opening back up there are more ways you can do events for us. In real life (we’d forgotten what that felt like).

Whether you fancy a challenge, or want to remember a loved one, do it for CALM. Since the beginning of lockdown our helpline has answered over 190,000 potentially life-saving calls and chats. We’re needed now more than ever. So it doesn’t matter if your challenge is big or small, or whether you raise five pounds or five hundred pounds, #TeamCALM’s dedication and passion makes it possible to answer those calls. Why not join them?

… Or let the CALM challenge generator decide

Not sure how you can support CALM? Put your fundraising fate in the hands of the Task Me Anything challenge generator. You’ll be asked eight simple questions about your interests and talents, before being matched with a task that will land in your email inbox five days later. From the brave to the damn right silly, give it a go and take on the unexpected!

Join the team, volunteer with us!

Wherever you are in the UK, you’re welcome to volunteer for CALM. You’ll be joining a team of passionate individuals who use their voice to campaign against living miserably, spreading the CALM message at gigs, theatre productions, festivals and more.

Don’t have loads of free time? Don’t stress. We offer a whole host of opportunities, both online and in person and you’ll be offered in depth training and guidance on how you can support CALM and signpost our life-saving services. Not only that, you’ll gain experience working with us on world-changing campaigns. Find out how to volunteer here.

Your answers could help save lives in the future

The more we talk about suicide, the more we understand it – and the more people can get help when they need it. The University of Glasgow are looking for men over 18 to complete a survey to help better understand male suicide (and, as you’re reading this, we think you’ll agree, that’s a pretty vital piece of research). So, if you feel up to it and you’ve got a few minutes, it could help change lives in the future.
