Memorandum and Articles of Association
CALM has amended its articles of association and memorandum to the effect:
To prevent and raise awareness of male suicide in the UK, particularly young male suicide.
To do so:
a) directly through the provision of effective support, education and practical advice services developed for men aged 15 and over;
b) by educating men so that they can recognise the symptoms of depression and can ask for help;
c) by researching and addressing the causes which we believe influence male suicide;
d) and by using our knowledge and experience to provide practical advice to others seeking to prevent suicide.
We are focussing down upon men rather than young people, as ¾ of all suicides are male, and we want to explicitly focus upon preventing suicide.
We will be taking calls from all men including older men – suicide is currently rising in this age group, as identified in the Government’s suicide prevention strategy launched Aug 10.
The Charity also wishes to operate throughout the United Kingdom rather than just England & Wales as we receive calls from those regions, and where the rates among male suicide are worryingly high.
