It’s good to talk

  • “Talk whenever you feel comfortable. You don’t want to feel like you’re under scrutiny. Go to the pub, go to their house, talk while you’re watching the football. Get a coffee. Go where there’s something else to do if you get embarrassed.”

    LOYLE CARNER
  • "When I suffered with my mental health, I didn’t know who I could tell and I felt so trapped. I didn’t tell anyone how I was feeling because I felt too embarrassed. I just disappeared. And I think that that is what a lot of people tend to do when they’re in a time of crisis."

    SHAREEFA J
  • “I want to see if the gaming community and beyond, can come together to encourage players and streamers to talk and support each other, because the more we open up and talk about the way we feel, the less stigma there is around it.”

    DANTDM
  • “I’ve ended up becoming an ambassador when staying calm is harder than ever. I’m a big believer in conversation as a complementary therapy”

    RUSSELL KANE
  • "Why can’t I talk about mental health in the same conversation as I’m sharing a funny anecdote? People are always worried that because mental health can be a dark subject, they can’t talk about it. But we need to try to change the stigma around it and talk more openly."

    JOE MARLER
  • “I want to bring about more honest and open conversations with men and focus on getting them to talk more, because we all have those struggles and we’re all human beings"

    RYAN THOMAS
  • "We all bear the same issues. Some people choose to talk about it, some people need to learn to talk about it, but if we can make it a safe place for people to communicate, then I think we’ll see a rise in people reaching out to others. I want people to know that it’s okay to talk to somebody. It’s not about giving advice, it’s just about being a listening ear.”

    SHIRLEY BALLAS
  • "Talking about my own mental health has been something that has helped me and I know from tweets, messages and people sticking around after the show, it has helped others too."

    SUZI RUFFELL

It can be difficult to know what to do if you’re worried that someone close to you is at risk of suicide. Our helpline is there for everyone, not only those in crisis, so you can call to find out more information on how you can help. You can also find support information on our worried about someone page, and our help section has information on particular issues.
