OCTOBER 10 IS WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY. IT COMES AT A TIME WHEN OUR HELPLINE IS NEEDED MORE THAN EVER. NO CALL FOR HELP SHOULD GO UNANSWERED. HELP US BE THERE FOR EVERYONE WHO NEEDS US.
The pandemic is one the biggest challenges we have faced this century. It’s left so many individuals and families suffering. We know there has been a huge rise in concerns around personal mental health. Depression doubled during lockdown, and anxiety and loneliness have greatly increased too. That’s why we launched our campaign to flatten the mental health curve.
It also means our helpline is more important than ever. Six months since the government announced lockdown in the UK, the CALM helpline answered 71,261 calls and chats and directly prevented 253 suicides.That’s over 12,000 hours talking to people and 645,240 chat messages exchanged around topics such as isolation, anxiety, relationship concerns, health worries, financial stress and suicidal thoughts.
No call for help should go unanswered. That’s why we’re proud to be part of Britain Get Talking’s emergency appeal to help Britain’s mental health helplines. It will help make sure, whether you’re anxious, depressed or concerned about a loved one, our helpline is here for everyone, no matter what.
