Virgin Active X CALM: Walking Tips
Whether you’re walking in London, or taking on your own walk across the UK, Virgin Active have some training tips that should help you along the way.
Get outside and, you guessed it, walk. Set aside a few days ahead of the walk where you can get out for a long walk or two. Whether it’s with your friends or family, just you and the dog, or going solo, it’s important to get moving ahead of the big day.
In the few days running up to the walk, try to eat a well-balanced diet so you’re ready for whatever the night brings. Pre-loading with carbohydrates on the day will give you all the energy you’ll need for the walk. A big bowl of pasta, white rice or potatoes should do the trick. And make sure you bring snacks to give you a pick me up (or three)!
You’ll need all the water you can get. Fill a bottle and take it with you on the move.
Get some sleep
Try to get a good night’s sleep and avoid a big gym session for a day or two beforehand. Resting up will help you feel energised and ready for your Lost Hours Walk.
Plan a recovery day
You’ll be walking into the early hours of Sunday morning. Keep Sunday clear and treat yourself to some well-earned rest and relaxation. Don’t forget to do some gentle stretching!
CALM X Virgin Active
Virgin Active are supporting Lost Hours Walk 2021, with gyms across the UK taking on their own walks. Here’s what they had to say about taking part.
“We’re so excited to be joining the community, there will be so many people coming together. We all have physical and emotional wellbeing. Our partnership with CALM brings together those two intrinsic elements, culminating in the Lost Hours Walk where we aim to fundraise and raise awareness to enable CALM to continue to be there when people need them the most. We’ve set a fundraising target of £25,000 and as a business, from our people to our members, we’re really enjoying working towards that goal.
