A mate, a mum, a manager. Anyone can feel suicidal. In fact, 1 in 4 of us will have suicidal thoughts at some point in our lives. Huge, right? It’s more common than you think – and it’s what we’re here to tackle.
And that’s not the only mind-blowing number we work with. No maths wizardry required, here’s some more of the stats behind suicide. From need-to-know to “holy shit”.
That’s how many suicide attempts there are each year. It’s a massive number. Just think of how many people could fill the O2 arena. Then times it by 10.
people die by suicide every week in the UK. That’s 18 people a day. One every 90 minutes – the same amount of time as a football match (without all the extra time).
Suicide is the biggest killer in men under 50. And the suicide rate for young women under 24 has seen the steepest increase since records began. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
calls come into our helpline every month. That means we answer a call for help every 59 seconds. And demand keeps getting bigger. We don't want anyone to struggle alone. That's where you come in.
