CALM RUNNING CLUB
WHAT IS THE CALM RUNNING CLUB?
The CALM Running Club brings people together around running. It’s a place for runners of every age, shape, and ability – we share training tips, encouragement, stories, failures and successes. It’s about a shared passion and mission, using exercise to look after yourself, and each other.
Some things our running clubs aren’t: they aren’t running clubs. We don’t wear tiny shorts and bibs, we don’t check our Strava every three seconds, we don’t chew energy gels for breakfast, it’s not about the fastest times, longest distances BUT we are about getting together, getting out there and feeling good.
If you join our Club you get:
- Quarterly newsletter with videos and articles about well-being and running and all things CALM
- An online, real-time community of like-minded mates and mentors through our Facebook Group
- Q&As with Running Experts and Coaches
- Exclusive offers on CALM Challenge Events
- Invites to Running Workshops
Members of Running Club support each other on their running journeys and celebrate the power of running for good physical and mental health.
We don’t always run together but we never run alone. Together we are CALM running Club. Join us.
WHY SET UP A RUNNING CLUB?
You’re here so we guess you already like running on some level. But maybe you’re wondering why we’re banging on about running so much, why it’s so important to CALM, and to us as humans and how we feel? We’ll let Marcus explain:
“Running does so many good things for us and our bodies. Not only does it directly improve our physical health but, more powerfully, our mental health. To get all sciency for a second, running releases a cocktail of stress busting and happy hormones into our system which:
- Helps reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
- Improves sleep quality
- Improves brain memory
- Helps the progress of ageing
- Actively boosts metabolism
- Helps self-esteem
Pretty good, hey?”
As Marcus says, all these benefits are there in black and neon (that’s the TeamCALM colours if you didn’t know). That’s even before we get onto the incredibly power of loads of like-minded people getting together.
As humans we’re hardwired for physical and social connections, and with those connections come so many social and scientific benefits. Sadly in our hectic modern lives these powerful connections can seem harder to find and, according to research, often increase our chances of feeling down or depressed.
That’s why a running club can make such a difference. Getting together regularly with a friendly group of like-minded people to exercise, chat and start those endorphins start firing around your body. Just like these guys:
