"I am incredibly proud to announce that I am an official ambassador of suicide prevention charity CALM.
I recently opened up about my own struggles mentally in the jungle & I’ve been blown away with the kind messages & positive response I’ve had. Being an ambassador, I hope, will open the door and inspire other people to talk about it more.
The work CALM does makes a real difference & I’ve been lucky enough to spend some time with their amazing team. They run a life-saving helpline for anyone affected by suicide or suicidal thoughts. It’s free, anonymous and open from 5 pm to midnight every day. Their website has loads of tools and info packed with practical, non-clinical advice to make talking and managing mental health easier.
The stats I’ve heard have shocked me. 1 in 5 of us will have suicidal thoughts. Every 90 minutes someone in the UK dies by suicide. And someone calls the CALM helpline every 59 seconds. That’s why it’s so crucial they’re here 365 days a year, helping people find ways to end their misery, not their lives.
CALM believe in a future in which nobody believes suicide is their only option.
And crucially - they believe talking about suicide helps prevent it. Conversations have such power & I am talking from experience."
