What's it really like

  • Helpline caller

“I stared at the number. I was terrified. Terrified of the shame I felt in asking for help, terrified of being laughed at for being weak… Instead I found someone who listened and that was all I needed at that moment: to be heard.”

  • Team member

”We understand about confidentiality and have very strict policies about it which we all know and understand.”

Other people asked

Our helpline can get very busy which unfortunately can mean a longer wait at times, but all calls will be answered if you choose to hold. We know holding can be tough, so alternatively you can come back again a little later and try again.

If it is an emergency and you don’t feel safe to wait, please call emergency services on 999 or on 111 and ask for the crisis team.

Samaritans are open 24 hours a day on 116 123

We also have a Services Directory here with a list of other organisations that might be helpful.

Translation services are available to those who do not have English as a first language and would prefer to speak in their native language.  When you call, please let us know what language you would feel most comfortable speaking to us in.

Please fill out the form on our website found here.
