LOOK OUT FOR OTHERS
It’s really important for each and everyone of us to check in on the people around us.
Listen to what they’re saying, let them know you’re there for them, be available and trust your instincts – if you think someone is going through a tough time don’t stand back and don’t accept ‘I’m fine’ if you know they’re not.
Want to help a mate that you’re worried about? You might sense they’re struggling, but what do you say? These steps can help mates in all sorts of tough situations. Introducing ALAN…
Ask open questions like, “how are you feeling?” to start a conversation. Show concern but don’t judge.
Let them speak. You don’t need to solve problems, they may just need to get stuff off their chest.
Help them make a plan of action and set some simple goals. Let them know what help is out there. Arrange your next meet up.
Build a network of support together, with other friends and family.
MAKE IT AN EVERYDAY CONVERSATION
Let’s normalise checking in on yourself and others.
You look after your physical health so why not your mental health too?
1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health issue each year – but 4 in 4 of us – everyone – has mental health. Anyone can hit tough points. We all go through difficult times in life and the feelings and emotions that come with that are something that unites us. Just like an MOT for your car, regular checks can make sure everything is OK. So let’s look out for ourselves and for others.
