Emily
Didn't get to celebrate her 20th birthday
My daughter Emily didn't get to celebrate her 20th birthday. There was a side to Em that people didn't see she was diagnosed with autism when she was 15 and she sometimes struggled with life, and away from public places sometimes she just needed that quiet space, but she was such a caring person and hated injustice in the world. I really hope this campaign will start conversations about suicide prevention. If suicide is the biggest killer of our young people then we need to have those open and honest conversations and we need to encourage people to seek help. I wish I’d been taught how to approach the subject of suicide and more importantly suicide prevention. if suicide is the biggest risk to our young people there why don't we tell them about it and why don't we give them the skills to handle those suicidal thoughts? Up to one in five of us will have.
