Didn't get to celebrate his 24th birthday
My little brother Harrison didn't get to celebrate his 24th birthday; he took his own life in December 2020 when he was only 23 years old. Harrison was passionate, loving, funny and intelligent, he always had a cheeky grin on his face and knew as my brother exactly how to make me laugh but wind me up in equal measures.
I'll never forget when we managed to surprise Harrison on his 20th birthday. My mum and I took him to a safari park during the day and made out that we were going to be having a nice chilled evening. Little did he know that we had organised for 10 of his mates to come over with some beers and pizza before they went on a night out. The look on his face was completely priceless - I think it made him realise how much he was loved by everyone.
Before Harrison passed away, I knew about suicide but I never thought that it was gonna be my brother to pass away from it. By opening up the conversation, I think it takes away the stigma by making people realise that they're not alone in having these thoughts.
