When I think of Jared, I remember someone with boundless curiosity, courage and compassion. He loved travelling and learning about different cultures. He always tried his hardest at everything he set out to do and would never give up.
He always wanted to make people laugh and had the quirkiest sense of humour. He would always fiercely defend his friends and stand up for people who were vulnerable or marginalised.
Jared was just starting his final year at university when he took his own life in September 2021. He was 20 years old.
Now, I picture Jared shouting at the TV when politicians bicker and argue, or singing in the crowd at Newcastle United games with his dad and friends.
I want this campaign to show that suicide can affect any family. I hope that by sharing our stories we can encourage more investment in vital services, and get more people to seek help so that they can share another birthday.
