Sailor
Didn't get to celebrate their 15th birthday
They came to this world as my daughter, Sara Maya Court, however, they wanted to identify as gender neutral, and so left this world being known as Sailor. Sailor will not celebrate their 15th birthday. They were a very bright, artistic, creative person. They had a quick wit, a great sense of humour. They were musical and enjoyed playing guitar. They had an open heart and gentle nature. I miss them every day. I miss their smile, their jokes. I miss them wrapping their arms around me from a young age. They were an amazing human is the only way I can think of putting it.
My fondest memory of Sailor was when I was working from home during Covid. I was working long hours. They would send me WhatsApp messages to get my attention. Sailor sent me a video of them with no eyebrows. I made my excuses and quickly ran down the stairs to their bedroom. I could hear Sailor counting. They were counting to see how long it took me to arrive at their bedroom. Apparently, I reached their room in 12 seconds. They were lying on their bed playing the guitar, laughing at me. Their eyebrows were intact. They were giggling as they were so pleased with their skills at using the software to digitally remove their eyebrows.
I hope this campaign will highlight that we're losing too many people to suicide, and that young females do take their own lives. Sailor was 14 when they took their life. There were no warning signs. There were no whispers that this was something that they were considering. We need to highlight that so many young people are being lost this way.
