Ted
Didn't get to celebrate his 21st birthday
My son Ted missed his 21st birthday, which was dreadful really as 21 is quite a coming of age, and he wasn't able to reach that age.
But Ted was an amazing young man. He was a larger than life character. He had such good comedic timing, so he would do impressions of people we knew and people on the telly and we would just be in stitches with him. He loved dancing and he and I would often have the music on loud and dance around the lounge. He was also really kind and really loving, and when he gave you a hug it was a really strong bear hug, and I miss those Ted hugs.
I just hope it will send a message to people who are looking after other young people who are feeling low and desperate on how they can get some support for that young person and for themseleves - because it's really hard supporting a young person who feels depressed or suicidal. I really hope that they can find in this campaign support networks and that they won't feel alone in this difficult journey.
And finally I would just say as one final message: It can happen, I never thought that Ted would take his own life, but he did. I think it's important that we all know it can happen, so we need to do all that we can with the support of others to try and help that young person to prevent them from seeing suicide as an option.
