Radio X and CALM launch Mental Health Toolkit

2020. Enough said. It’s been a tough one, and that’s an understatement. It’s predicted that 10 million people will need mental health support as a direct consequence of COVID-19. That’s why Radio X and CALM have teamed up to bring you an exclusive podcast series tackling some of the stuff that’s been getting us down.

Famous faces from across music and comedy bring you the Radio X Mental Health Toolkit - across 5 episodes, Nish Kumar, Ed Gamble, Iain Striling, Jason Fox and Simon Neil tackle topics including money worries to anxiety, drawing on their own personal experience as well as providing some advice for if you’re struggling.

Comedian and voice of Love Island Iain Stirling opens up about anxiety. SAS Who Dares Wins star Jason Fox talks depression. Biffy Clyro’s Simon Neil touches upon grief and bereavement, comedian Nish Kumar covers financial stress and podcaster, comedian and host of Sunday mornings on Radio X, Ed Gamble, presents an episode on mental health. Each podcast is under 10 minutes, meaning it’s easy to fit in to your commute, walk to the shops, or while making the dinner.

Here’s what Simon Gunning , CALM’s CEO, had to say: “It is predicted that 10 million people – almost a fifth of the population in England - will need mental health support as a direct consequence of COVID-19. This is a national issue that needs everyone’s attention. Our partnership with Radio X will enable us to reach more people who may need support before they reach the point of crisis, wherever they are, no matter what. And in doing so we can continue to play an important role in challenging the stigma surrounding mental health and take another step in creating long-term cultural change.”

Matt Deverson, Managing Editor of Radio X, said: “We know that in an extraordinarily challenging year, many listeners have turned to radio and podcasts for support, and so our aim is to amplify the conversation around mental health.
