New Minister for Suicide Prevention appointed

After more than a decade campaigning against suicide, CALM is welcoming the Prime Minister's appointment of the UK's very first Minister for Suicide Prevention, announced to mark World Mental Health Day 2018.

Every year in the UK, around 6,000 lives are lost to suicide, an issue which was highlighted through CALM's hard-hitting campaign, #Project84, in March this year. As part of the campaign and together with Matthew Smith, who lost his brother Dan to suicide, CALM launched a petition calling for a Minister for Suicide Prevention, which has since garnered almost 400,000 signatures.

Watch below a heartfelt message from Matthew celebrating the welcome news of the UK's first ever Minister for Suicide Prevention.
