What Men Do: A Guy’s Guide To Becoming a Hero

Two weeks ago, we reporting that we would be getting into bed with an amazing new book, ‘What Men Do, A Guy’s Guide to Becoming a Hero’. So we are thrilled to announce that it is finally available for sale on the website! Although written for 16 year old guys, as the warning at the beginning of the Guide implicitly states, the Guidance is going to be just as useful for any guy (or father) who thinks it’s time their inner Hero quit hiding below the surface. Written in a fresh, sharp and funny style, the blurb says it all: This Guide will help you harness the spirit of what’s dangling between your legs and become the Hero you have within.

You wouldn’t expect three Yorkshiremen to beat around the bush though, would you? Dobbie, Kemp and Ward first began throwing around the idea of a guide to help teenage lads navigate the path to becoming a man while their paths crossed five years ago at The Workshop, a charity in the North West that helps teenagers (mainly lads) discover a sense of purpose through the Arts.

“We were dismayed at the piss-poor picture of Manliness promoted in the media and embodied by celebs, and the warped ideas of masculinity that gangs extol and ‘knifecrime’ figures embody. We thought that if young guys fully understood the qualities required of Manliness today, maybe they wouldn’t be arsing around sticking knives into each other, or in the desperation at the futility they envisage as their future, topping themselves. The Guide is our attempt to help lads cut through the bullshit and grab their Life by the horns.”

The Guide is split into a series of stand-alone essays, or ‘Areas of Awareness’ as they are called, each tackling parts of Life that will arise if you intend to take the tough option and become the Hero you have within.

Afterall, as it says in the Guide, today’s Oak was simply an acorn with Balls.

So if all this grabs your attention, get yourself over to their website www.whatmendo.co.uk where you can buy the book for £7.99 plus postage and packaging. If you want to read about why What Men Do choose to get into bed with CALM, click here.
